Diverse fruiting body forms and spore dispersal mechanisms have evolved among Gasteromycetes, Nevertheless, it appears that Hymenomycetes have never been secondarily derived from Gasteromycetes, which suggests that the loss of ballistospory has constrained evolution in these lineages.
