The authors analyzed the small world network of the creative artists who made Broadway musicals from 1945 to 1989. Using original arguments, new statistical methods, and tests of construct validity, they found that the varying “small world” properties of the systemic level network of these artists affected their creativity in terms of the financial and artistic performance of the musicals they produced. The small world network effect was parabolic; performance increased up to a threshold, after which point the positive effects reversed. %Z %U http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/faculty/uzzi/ftp/uzzi's_research_papers/uzzi&spiroajs_smallworlds.pdf %+ %^ %0 %0 Generic %A Newman, M. Here we review developments in this field, including such concepts as the small-world effect, degree distributions, clustering, network correlations, random graph models, models of network growth and preferential attachment, and dynamical processes taking place on networks. %Z %U http://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/0303516 %+ %^ %0 %0 Conference Proceedings %A Zhang, Hui; Goel, Ashish & Govindan, Ramesh %D 2002 %T Using the Small-World Model to Improve Freenet Performance %E %B Proc.\ 21st Annual Joint Conference of the IEEE %C New York, NY %I %V %6 %N %P %& %Y %S %7 %8 July %9 %? %! %Z %@ %( %) %* %L %M %1 %2 %3 inproceedings %4 %# %$ %F zhang2002using %K social, self, preferential, attachment, world, seminar2006, networks, organization, small %X %Z %U %+ %^ %0 %0 Journal Article %A Craven, M.; DiPasquo, D.; Freitag, D.; McCallum, A.; Mitchell, T.; Nigam, K. & Slattery, S. %D 2000 %T Learning to Construct Knowledge Bases from the World Wide Web %E %B Artificial Intelligence %C %I %V 118 %6 %N 1-2 %P 69--113 %& %Y %S %7 %8 %9 %? %! %Z %@ %( %) %* %L %M %1 %2 %3 article %4 %# %$ %F Cravenetal00 %K web, learning, construct, wide, knowledge, world, bases %X %Z %U citeseer.nj.nec.com/craven00learning.html %+ %^ %0 %0 Book %A Watts, Duncan J. %D 1999 %T Small Worlds -- The Dynamics of Networks between Order and Randomneess %E %B %C Princeton, New Jersey %I Princeton University Press %V %6 %N %P %& %Y %S %7 %8 %9 %? %! %Z %@ %( %) %* %L %M %1 %2 %3 book %4 %# %$ %F watts1999small %K social, self, preferential, attachment, world, seminar2006, networks, organization, small %X %Z %U %+ %^ %0 %0 Journal Article %A Mcintosh, Gregory C. %D 1998 %T The Rediscovery of Two Lost Sixteenth-Century World Maps %E %B Imago Mundi.
