Combined data acquisition of phased array ultrasonics and 3D probe
location
S. Soldan. Technical note, 12. FG Mess- und Regelungstechnik, Universität Kassel, (2013)
Phased array ultrasonics is a nondestructive evaluation method for
e.g. inspection of welds, corrosion and flaws as well as thickness
measurements. For known geometries (e.g. pipes) wheel encoders can
be used to track the position of the probe and allow for easy determination
of the fault shape, position and report generation. This technical
note presents first results of optical 3D tracking of the sensor
probe to enable precise inspections of arbitrary shaped objects.
This work was carried out during an internship at Université Laval
from 15. January – 31. March 2013.
