As for now, Bitcoin remains to be the best recognized cryptocurrency, in particular in terms of market capitalization. However, as this paper shows, there are plenty of alternatives. This paper outlines the historical roots which have led to the creation of privately emitted, cryptography based digital currencies. Additionally, this paper discusses future possible hurdles of the development of cryptocurrencies and outlines features which might influence the success of a cryptocurrency. Insights into the beginning of cryptocurrency development are gained by analysis of the publicly available DOACC dataset. The paper does so by providing an overview of the techniques and mechanisms used by cryptocurrencies. It shows that newly created cryptocurrencies tend to be very similar in some properties in the early stages but new features and more diversity developed in more recent years. Additionally, newly created cryptocurrencies tend more and more to create a fixed number of coins before the initial announcement in order to sell these in Initial Coin Offerings. Even when the amount of premining increases over years, it remains at lower levels on the aggregate. }, author = {Hanl, Andreas}, doi = {10.13140/RG.2.2.33318.01601}, howpublished = {MAGKS Discussion Paper No. 04-2018}, interhash = {ca5bddd90e3e63b599ab999ee78d3510}, intrahash = {571def2cb908f2f1d57d5763d553e090}, language = {English}, title = {Some Insights into the Development of Cryptocurrencies}, url = {https://www.uni-marburg.de/fb02/makro/forschung/magkspapers/paper_2018/04-2018_hanl.pdf}, year = 2018 } @article{BlocherHanlMichaelis2017, abstract = {Die Entstehung von Kryptowährungen wie dem Bitcoin hat die Finanzwelt nach der Krise 2007ff. gehörig in Aufruhr versetzt. Mobile health care applications (apps) providing drug information to users are increasingly made available and of rising importance for the health care domain. However, apps usually offer functionality that only medical professionals or vendors consider useful for patients, although their considerations are not likely to meet patient expectations. In our exploratory study, we identify 33 features patients expect in apps for drug information provision with interviews and empirically assess their perceived importance in an online survey. Results indicate that patients desire personalization features for provided information but not for the app interface. This work contributes to research and practice by identifying and empirically ranking drug information provision features patients find important. The ADEQUA study is approaching the quality of learning strategic actions in a more finely grained fashion by rating the adequacy of discrete learning strategies at the microanalytical level. Specifically, the study scrutinizes the strategies used by secondary-level students of English as a foreign language while reading an English text in a self-regulated, cooperative learning environment. The strategies they used in overcoming comprehension difficulties were identified and rated on the basis of the students’ videotaped task performance as well as a stimulated recall procedure. In regression models, the adequacy of strategic actions is of major predictive power with considerable effect sizes for students’ achievement. The hypothesis-testing approach adopted here (i.e., to assess the adequacy of every discrete strategy used by means of highly inferential ratings), appears to be promising.}, author = {Ludwig, Peter H. and Finkbeiner, Claudia and Knierim, Markus}, doi = {10.1891/1945-8959.12.3.374}, interhash = {c3026b1b4dfac8b2257c489caf8f0a2f}, intrahash = {aa60035e68f744607364ba0046434175}, journal = {Journal of Cognitive Education and Psychology}, pages = {374–390}, title = {Effects of the adequacy of learning strategies in self-regulated learning settings: A video-based microanalytical lab study}, type = {null}, volume = 12, year = 2013 }
